I am sure my fellow one year MBA graduates would agree. There are times when prospects (and particularly their parents) put down a downright statement that one year MBA programs are Executive MBA programs. Speaking to some of the parents, once I had a really hard time how one year regular MBA programs (like ISB – PGP) are not same as Executive MBA (like ISB-PGPMAX) programs. So much for marketing of one year MBA! Since a lot many questions are centered around duration of MBA programs, I have decided to pre-empt this confusion by addressing any questions on comparison upfront in General Education MBA admission consultants workshops.
The main reasons why such doubts creep up in heads is probably because one year Executive programs propagated by Tier-1 institutes in India (like IIMs) involved a one year of regular association till one year regular MBA started and changed the whole management education dynamics in India. I’ve heard of Distance MBA courses for executives running for three years also. Prospects to MBA programs must list out their priorities, work-life balance before they make a decision on applying for a program.
Here, I would like to enumerate some of the differences that exist between regular MBA programs and Executive MBA programs. The case in point is ISB. Although this is not an exhaustive list of differential features, but I am sure, this will help candidates (and some of the parents) understand the nuances and apply for the correct program.
